Quinton Aaron, the actor best known for portraying Michael Oher in the 2009 film The Blind Side, has shared a harrowing account of waking from a four-day coma to learn his wife was married to another man.
In an exclusive interview with ABC News’ Steve Osunsami, Aaron revealed that his hospitalization in January—following a spinal stroke—unraveled a shocking truth about his marriage. His wife, Margarita DeLeon, whom he had married in December 2024, was legally still married to another man, Eric Guzman.
The discovery came when Aaron’s attorney found records proving DeLeon’s prior marriage, rendering her unable to make medical decisions on his behalf. Aaron admitted he never verified her divorce claims, calling it his “biggest mistake.”
“If I had a chance to do it over, I would have done my due diligence,”
“I would’ve definitely done a lot more research.”
DeLeon, who claimed she had filed for divorce a decade earlier, admitted to Aaron in the hospital that she was unaware her divorce was never finalized. Both she and Guzman, who were married in 1992, were stunned to learn their divorce paperwork had never been processed. Guzman filed for divorce again in February to rectify the situation.
During the interview, which aired on Good Morning America on April 20, 2026, DeLeon also shared her perspective:
“When I told Quinton back in the hospital bed, and I want to be very honest about this, I feel like this needs to be said and brought out there, I said to him, ‘Baby, this information that your family pulled up on me, you know, I wasn’t aware of it.’ I said, ‘This is what I found out. It is true.’”
For Aaron, the ordeal has become a lesson in self-awareness and accountability. He reflected on ignoring signs from his body over the years, urging others to pay closer attention to their health.
“Learn to pay attention to a lot, a lot of stuff,”
“I started paying attention to my body because I found out over the years, it was speaking very disrespectfully to me, and I was ignoring it.”
