Rick and Morty fans have a reason to celebrate. The hit animated series is returning for its ninth season much earlier than expected, with a premiere set for Monday, May 24 at 11 p.m. ET/PT on Adult Swim.

The network promises a season that is “bigger, bolder, and more ambitious than ever.”

New episodes will be available to stream weekly on HBO Max and Hulu beginning June 15.

Season 9 Logline Teases a Return to Form

Adult Swim shared the official logline for Season 9, which reads:

“Rick and Morty is back, baby! Season Nine is all certified bangers. No AI slop! Just Grade A organic slop, made by real humans with real human traits like back hair and cysts. Please watch, or we’ll have neglected our families for nothing.”

Scott Marder Returns as Showrunner

Scott Marder, who previously served as showrunner for Season 5, will reprise his role for Season 9. He will executive produce alongside series co-creator Dan Harmon.

Adult Swim President Praises the Season’s Ambition

Michael Ouweleen, president of Adult Swim, shared his enthusiasm for the upcoming season:

“I know it’s my job to say that this show just keeps topping itself, but it also has the benefit of being true. It’s kind of scary what this show unit is doing season over season—just pouring an absurd amount of talent and brilliance into these episodes. From the first frame, you’re going to see great high-concept insanity with some of the best character writing ever done. Again, it’s my job to say that, but it’s also true.”

Principal Cast Returns for Season 9

The ninth season will feature the return of the principal cast, including:

  • Ian Cardoni as Rick Sanchez
  • Harry Belden as Morty Smith
  • Sarah Chalke
  • Chris Parnell
  • Spencer Grammer

Cardoni and Belden took over the roles of Rick and Morty in Season 7 following the departure of series co-creator Justin Roiland, who left Adult Swim after being charged with felony domestic violence.
