Rivian has officially begun production of the R2 at its facility in Normal, Illinois, marking a significant milestone for the electric vehicle manufacturer. First customer deliveries are scheduled to begin later this spring.
The crossover model starts at $57,990, with more affordable variants planned for the future. Production commenced just days after a tornado struck the factory on Friday, causing damage to the facility.
R2 Production Resumes After Tornado Strikes
Despite the recent tornado that hit the Normal plant, Rivian confirmed that the production model of the R2 is now being built. The automaker did not disclose details about the production process but noted that the first vehicles will undergo final quality and validation checks before delivery.
If all checks pass, the first customer deliveries will commence later this spring.
