Jaguar has taken a lightly disguised Type 01 prototype to the streets of Monaco ahead of this weekend’s Formula E Monaco E-Prix. The all-electric sedan is expected to make its global debut in September, targeting buyers who typically consider Bentley or Rolls-Royce.

The prototype, finished in red, white, and beige, features the car’s official name, Type 01, printed on the roof. While the skin-tight wrap obscures some design details, the vehicle’s striking appearance is undeniable.

Jaguar’s new electric sedan has sparked controversy, particularly due to the brand’s 2024 marketing campaign and rebrand. However, beyond the marketing, the Type 01 aims to carve out a niche in the luxury EV market.

Design and Features of the Jaguar Type 01

The Jaguar Type 01 will lack a traditional grille, instead featuring slim daytime running lights and LED headlights. The long hood, designed to accommodate a spacious frunk, and pop-out door handles contribute to its bold aesthetic. The rear of the vehicle includes a small trunk opening and no visible rear window.

The interior continues the vehicle’s rugged design language. Recent images reveal a steering wheel with thick horizontal spokes, housing multiple controls and buttons. A large wraparound infotainment screen and a digital instrument cluster will also be included.

Performance Specifications

The all-electric Jaguar Type 01 is expected to be powered by a 120 kWh battery pack. This battery will drive three electric motors, producing over 1,000 hp and 959 lb-ft (1,300 Nm) of torque.
