The Volkswagen ID Buzz is back—and this time, it’s ready for a road trip with a built-in bed. After a one-year hiatus in the U.S. market for the 2026 model year, the electric bus returns as the 2027 ID Buzz with a refreshed trim lineup and a standout feature: the Tourer 4Motion trim, designed for campers.
On Thursday, Volkswagen announced the 2027 ID Buzz, confirming its return after the 2026 model year absence in the U.S. The new Tourer trim includes a fold-out mattress with a platform, window blinds, front window ventilation panels, and Overnight Mode software. This software adjusts interior and exterior functions to optimize the vehicle for overnight stays, though Volkswagen has not yet detailed how it works.
The Tourer trim also comes standard with an exterior table and chairs (likely VW-branded), a retractable tow hitch, captain’s chairs, an electrochromic roof, a surround-view camera system, and 20-inch dark graphite wheels with black discs.
The new Tourer trim positions itself between the mid-spec Pro S 4Motion and the top-tier Pro S Plus 4Motion, which now features 21-inch wheels. The base Pro S RWD serves as the entry-level option. All ID Buzz models will now include a Tesla-like NACS charging port.
Volkswagen has also addressed past criticism by reintroducing two-tone paint options. Every ID Buzz will now feature two-tone paint, including a Candy White over Cherry Red scheme with white wheels, evoking the iconic color combination of the classic Type 2 Microbus.
Pricing, driving range, and the exact showroom return date for the 2027 ID Buzz have not yet been announced. Volkswagen’s decision to add the Tourer’s sleeping setup after launch has been noted as a notable correction to an oversight in the initial rollout.
