British online safety regulator Ofcom has accepted new commitments from X (formerly Twitter) aimed at better protecting UK users from illegal hate and terrorist content on the platform.

Under the agreement announced on June 12, 2024, X will withhold access in the UK to accounts reported for posting illegal terrorist content and determined to be operated by UK terror groups. The platform has also pledged to assess at least 85% of terror and hate speech reports submitted by users within a maximum of 48 hours.

Additionally, X will collaborate with experts to refine reporting systems for illegal hate and terror content and submit quarterly performance data to Ofcom over the next 12 months.
