French prosecutors opened a criminal investigation on Tuesday into Elon Musk and X, escalating a probe into alleged illegal content on the social network, including sexual images of minors.

The move follows a raid on X’s Paris office three months ago and unanswered summons for Musk and former X CEO Linda Yaccarino to appear for questioning in April.

Prosecutors had initially sought to interview Musk and Yaccarino voluntarily, but both failed to comply. Authorities are now pursuing a compulsory appearance under threat of criminal charges.

The investigation also encompasses Grok’s dissemination of Holocaust-denial claims and sexually explicit deepfakes.
