President Donald Trump once again marked Star Wars Day on May 4, 2026, but this year’s AI-generated meme avoided the unintended villainous portrayal of his previous post. However, comedian and NBC host Seth Meyers found only one redeeming quality in the image.

Each year, fans worldwide celebrate the occasion with the phrase “May the 4th Be With You.” Trump joined the festivities by sharing an AI-generated image of himself as the Mandalorian, the iconic armored warrior from the Star Wars universe, cradling Grogu, also known as Baby Yoda.

Meyers’ Only Praise: Grogu’s Reaction

“The only thing I like about this image is the way Grogu is looking at us like, ‘Can you believe this s–t?’”

Seth Meyers, NBC host

The irony is not lost on observers, as actor Pedro Pascal, who portrays the Mandalorian in the Star Wars series The Mandalorian, has been a vocal critic of Trump. Pascal is among several artists whose work has been used by the administration despite their public opposition—some even facing legal threats.

Contrast With 2025’s Controversial Post

Trump’s 2026 meme marked a notable shift from his 2025 Star Wars Day post, which featured him wielding a red lightsaber—a weapon exclusively used by Sith lords, the franchise’s villains. The 2025 image also included a caption targeting political opponents:

“Happy May the 4th to all, including the Radical Left Lunatics who are fighting so hard to to bring Sith Lords, Murderers, Drug Lords, Dangerous Prisoners, well known MS-13 Gang Members, back into our Galaxy. You’re not the Rebellion — you’re the Empire. May the 4th be with you.”

The White House, May 4, 2025

Social media users quickly pointed out the error, but the post remains online and was never addressed by the administration.
