The Pittsburgh Steelers have declined the fifth-year option for left tackle Broderick Jones, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports.
The move, which would have guaranteed Jones $19.1 million for the 2027 season, was not unexpected. Jones is recovering from a neck injury that required spinal fusion surgery, leaving his availability for 2026 uncertain. He has made 38 career starts to date.
To mitigate risk, the Steelers selected Max Iheanachor, an offensive tackle from Arizona State, with the 21st overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. The selection provides Pittsburgh with insurance in case Jones is unable to play next season.
