The White House has sparked controversy by labeling Donald Trump and King Charles of Britain as ‘TWO KINGS’ in a social media post. The image, shared by the official White House X account, featured a crown emoji alongside a photo of Trump and King Charles outside the Oval Office.
King Charles was in Washington to deliver an address to a joint session of Congress ahead of America’s 250th anniversary. In his speech, he emphasized the importance of U.S.-U.K. relations, stating that the partnership is ‘more important than ever’ and that ‘the challenges we face are too great for any one nation to bear alone.’
Addressing lawmakers, including House Speaker Mike Johnson and Vice President JD Vance, King Charles said:
‘America’s words carry weight and meaning, as they have since Independence. The actions of this great nation matter even more.’He continued, referencing President Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address:
‘President Lincoln understood this so well, with his reflection in the magisterial Gettysburg Address that the world may little note what we say, but will never forget what we do.’
The captioned photo of Trump and King Charles has been widely criticized as a mockery of democratic values. Critics argue that the image reinforces Trump’s self-proclaimed regal status, which he has previously embraced. In February, Trump referred to himself as a king while ranting about New York City’s congestion pricing policy. Shortly after, White House Deputy Chief of Staff Taylor Budowich posted an AI-generated image of Trump wearing a jeweled crown and fur-trimmed cape. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also amplified the remark by sharing it with a ‘100’ emoji.
Earlier this month, Trump shared another controversial AI-generated image on Truth Social, depicting himself as Jesus Christ in red and white robes. The post drew bipartisan backlash, leading Trump to delete it and claim the image represented him as a doctor.
