President Donald Trump and his supporters are capitalizing on the shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA) dinner on Saturday night to advocate for the construction of a new White House ballroom. The incident has become a rallying point for those pushing the long-delayed project.

“This event would never have happened with the Militarily Top Secret Ballroom currently under construction at the White House,”

Trump posted on Truth Social Sunday morning.

“This is why we have to have all of the attributes of what we’re planning at the White House. It’s actually a larger room, and it’s a much more secure. It’s got—it’s drone proof, it’s bulletproof glass.”

Trump made these remarks during a press conference on Saturday night following the incident.

Supporters Echo Trump’s Call for the Ballroom

Following the news of the shooting, several prominent figures aligned with Trump voiced their support for the ballroom project:

  • Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry posted on X:
“Unfortunately, the First Lady and I had to be evacuated from the White House correspondents’ dinner alongside the President and the entire cabinet. This event is yet another reason that President @realDonaldTrump’s ballroom should be built!”
  • Rep. Randy Fine (R-Fla.) wrote on X:
“We’d better never again hear a peep from anyone complaining about a White House ballroom.”
  • Meghan McCain, a conservative commentator, stated:
“I don’t want to hear one more fucking criticism of Trump’s new ballroom at the White House.”
McCain has previously criticized Trump but has since appeared to extend an “olive branch.”
  • Chaya Raichik, founder of the anti-LGBTQ+ and far-right account Libs of TikTok, posted on X:
“THIS IS WHY WE NEED TRUMP’S BALLROOM.”

Social media accounts aligned with the MAGA movement also amplified calls for the ballroom following the WHCA dinner incident. A tweet from MeidasTouch highlighted the unified messaging.

Legal and Financial Controversies Surround the Ballroom Project

The president’s ballroom project has faced significant legal hurdles. Last month, a federal ruling determined that Trump lacks the authority to proceed with the $400 million project without congressional approval. However, an appeals court stayed the March ruling earlier this month, allowing construction to continue until June.

Despite Trump’s claims that the ballroom will not cost taxpayers, reports suggest otherwise. His administration may have adjusted tariffs to benefit a foreign private firm involved in the White House renovation. Additionally, a New York Times report from Saturday revealed that the company constructing the ballroom was secretly awarded a no-bid contract for another Washington project at an inflated cost.
