Twitch CEO Emmett Shear announced new penalties for streamers caught engaging in viewbotting, a fraudulent practice where users artificially inflate their view counts. The platform will now impose view caps on repeat offenders to deter such behavior.

The penalties come as part of Twitch’s ongoing efforts to ensure transparency and fairness within its community. Viewbotting undermines the integrity of the platform by distorting viewership metrics, which can impact streamers’ earnings and opportunities.

Shear emphasized the importance of maintaining a level playing field for all creators. "We take these issues very seriously," he stated. "Our goal is to create a fair and transparent environment where genuine engagement is rewarded."

Under the new policy, first-time offenders will receive warnings, while repeat violators will face stricter consequences, including temporary or permanent bans. The platform will also implement additional measures to detect and prevent viewbotting in real time.

Twitch has not specified the exact duration of view caps or the threshold for repeat offenses. However, the company confirmed that it will monitor accounts closely and take action as needed to uphold its community guidelines.
