Utz Quality Foods LLC, a subsidiary of Pennsylvania-based Utz Brands Inc., has issued a voluntary recall of select varieties of its Zapp’s and Dirty potato chips after discovering potential salmonella contamination in the seasoning’s dry milk powder. The milk powder was manufactured by California Dairies and may be linked to a broader contamination concern.
The recall notice was posted Monday by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). In its announcement, Utz stated:
"The affected seasoning batches tested negative for Salmonella prior to use; however, out of an abundance of caution, Utz is recalling the limited varieties of Zapp’s and Dirty brand potato chips identified below."
This recall follows a similar action by Ghirardelli Chocolate Company, which recalled a range of powdered beverage mixes last week. Both products contained milk powder from California Dairies supplied to a third-party manufacturer. At the time of both recalls, no related illnesses had been reported.
