The Washington Commanders made a bold move in the 2025 NFL Draft, selecting Ohio State linebacker Sonny Styles with the seventh overall pick. The team hopes Styles can help turn around their fortunes after a dismal 5-12 season in 2025.

Styles became the third Ohio State product drafted in the first seven picks of the draft, following teammates Carnell Tate (No. 4) and Arvell Reese (No. 5). This is the first time in NFL Draft history that Ohio State has had three players selected among the top seven picks in a single draft.

Styles’ collegiate career at Ohio State was marked by excellence. He spent three years as a starter for the Buckeyes and led the team in tackles during his final season. His performance at the Scouting Combine further solidified his status as a top prospect, where he recorded the fastest 40-yard dash, highest vertical leap, and longest broad jump among all linebackers in the draft class.

With no second-round pick in this year’s draft, the Commanders’ next selection is scheduled for the 71st overall pick.
