The annual White House Correspondents' Association dinner concluded without incident on Saturday night at the Washington D.C. Hilton Hotel. Despite a security breach involving an armed individual, all attendees, including President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance, were safely evacuated and remained unharmed.

Security Breach Leads to Brief Evacuation

On a separate floor of the Hilton, several layers of security away from the dinner event, an individual carrying at least one firearm reportedly sprinted through a security checkpoint, exchanged gunfire with law enforcement, and was subsequently arrested. Authorities identified the assailant as Cole Tomas Allen, who reportedly traveled by train from the Los Angeles area to Washington D.C.

During the incident, Allen fired a shot that struck a Secret Service agent’s bulletproof vest. As a precaution, Secret Service agents evacuated President Trump—who had recently threatened to "annihilate the civilization of Iran"—and Vice President JD Vance from the dinner.

Dinner Resumes Briefly Before Early Conclusion

After the evacuation, remaining guests—who had gathered in formal attire to network—were informed by security personnel that the evening’s festivities would not resume. Attendees were instructed to leave, though some lingered to take selfies and consume leftover champagne.

Later, Trump addressed the press, including CBS News White House correspondent and WHCA member Weijia Jiang, who had been seated beside him during the dinner. Trump, who recently received a $400 million luxury airliner from the royal family of Qatar and is pursuing a $10 billion lawsuit against the U.S. Treasury Department, claimed the security incident demonstrated his "historical importance."

"To the extent that the fracas at the security checkpoint may have represented an attempt on my life, it attests to my historical importance."
