YouTube’s AI Likeness Detection Tool Now Available to Celebrities and Talent Agencies

YouTube is expanding access to its AI likeness detection tool to Hollywood talent agencies, management companies, and the celebrities they represent. The tool, which functions similarly to Content ID, scans AI-generated content for a participant’s likeness—such as deepfakes—and allows individuals to review and request removal if the content violates YouTube’s privacy guidelines.

Identity Verification and Data Privacy

To use the tool, participants must first verify their identity. The data collected during setup is exclusively used for identity verification and is not utilized to train Google’s generative AI models. Users retain the option to opt out at any time, and YouTube will delete the provided data upon request.

"With support from leading talent agencies and management companies, including CAA, UTA, WME, and Untitled Management, we’ve worked to refine how likeness detection can best serve talent. We’re excited that celebrities and entertainers are now eligible to access this tool, regardless of whether they have a YouTube channel."

Tool Expansion and Previous Rollouts

The expansion to Hollywood follows the tool’s initial launch in December 2024 through a collaboration with CAA clients. It was later extended to a group of 5,000 creators in October 2024 and subsequently to government officials, political candidates, and journalists in March 2025.

Future Revenue Opportunities and Advocacy

Beyond safety measures, YouTube is exploring ways for creators and artists to generate new revenue streams by managing and authorizing the use of their AI likeness. The platform also continues to advocate for the NO FAKES Act, which aims to establish a federal right of publicity and serve as a model for international adoption to ensure AI technology complements, rather than replaces, human creativity.
