ワシントン — 米政府高官が最近の朝食会でドイツ大使に対し、医薬品の価格を引き上げるよう要請していたことが明らかになった。
この会談には、米国通商代表部のジェイムソン・グリール代表、保健省主席顧問のクリス・クロムプ氏、そしてドイツ大使のイェンス・ハネフェルト氏が参加。関係者によると、米国が医薬品にかける費用を抑えつつ、他国に負担を求めるトランプ政権の戦略の一環だったという。
米側は、不公平な貿易慣行に対抗する権限を与える「セクション301」に基づく関税の活用についても言及。他国に医薬品費用の引き上げを迫るための圧力手段として検討された。ハネフェルト大使はドイツ当局と協議する意向を示したが、具体的な合意には至らなかったという。
