filed a lawsuit against Samsung Electronics in a US court, demanding $15 million in damages. The lawsuit alleges that the South Korean tech giant used a copyrighted image of the British pop star on its television cardboard boxes without her permission, violating her right of publicity as well as her copyright and trademark rights.

The legal complaint was filed on Friday in the United States District Court for the Central District of California. According to the lawsuit, the image in question was taken from a performance at the Austin City Limits music festival in 2024.

Lipa and her legal team reportedly discovered the unauthorized use in June 2025 and immediately demanded that Samsung cease using the image. However, the company responded with what the lawsuit describes as “dismissive and callous” behavior, repeatedly refusing to comply with the request.

The lawsuit highlights that Lipa’s face was used in a mass marketing campaign for a consumer product without her knowledge, consent, or any control over its use. It also notes that she is highly selective about her endorsements, which currently include brands like Apple, Porsche, Versace, Bulgari, and Nespresso.

Beyond the legal violations, the lawsuit also raises concerns about the potential impact of such unauthorized use on consumer behavior. The packaging, which featured Lipa’s image, may have influenced purchasing decisions in favor of Samsung, as suggested by social media posts cited in the lawsuit.

“I’d get that TV just because Dua is on it. That’s how obsessed I am.”

Another user commented,

“The only reason I bought my Samsung TV back in 2019 was this woman’s face. It was nothing to do with the TV quality or the price or the features.”

Since the lawsuit became public, similar reactions have flooded social media platforms, with many users expressing support for Lipa and calling for fair compensation.

“Dua Lipa deserves compensation. The only reason I bought my Samsung TV was because of her face.”

This case underscores the importance of respecting celebrities' intellectual property rights and the potential consequences of unauthorized commercial use of their images.
