A 1972 Chevrolet C30 camper van, custom-built by River City Rods for the SEMA Show in 2017, is set to cross the Mecum Auctions block in September. Unlike typical camper vans, this one is anything but slow, dull, or forgettable.

Built around an upgraded C30 pickup, the van section is entirely custom, featuring a striking combination of light blue and beige. The interior is designed to resemble a decades-old camper, clad in wood paneling and floors. A large sleeping area sits above the cabin, alongside an old boat engine, skis, a seating area, speakers, and quirky details like dozens of old tin cans hanging from the headliner.

Power and Performance

Most campers are known for their sluggish performance, but this Chevy C30 defies expectations. It is powered by a 6.2-liter LS3 naturally-aspirated V8, paired with a 4L70E automatic transmission. While the exact output is unspecified, stock LS3 engines typically produce around 430 horsepower. The engine bay is meticulously maintained, reflecting the craftsmanship of this custom build.

The camper’s low ride height is achieved through an Air Ride suspension system, Ridetech air springs, and GSI control arms. It also features Wilwood brakes and 22-inch Sportz Slice wheels.

A Camper with Attitude

Unlike most campers designed to blend into a campground, this C30 rolls in with the presence of a lowrider and the power of a V8. If you’re looking for a camper that turns heads, this might be the one for your collection.
