The 2026 NFL Draft experienced a notable decline in viewership compared to the previous year, with the three-day average audience dropping from 7.7 million in 2025 to 6.6 million in 2026, according to Austin Karp of Sports Business Journal. This represents a 14.2% decrease in average viewership.
First-round viewership also saw a slight decline, falling from 13.6 million in 2025 to 13.2 million in 2026. Despite the drop, the 2026 draft still ranks as the third-highest three-day average since the current format was introduced in 2010.
Viewership numbers for the individual days were as follows:
- Friday: 6.316 million viewers
- Saturday: 3.677 million viewers
Analysts noted that the 2026 draft lacked the prolonged intrigue of the previous year, which saw Shedeur Sanders's unexpected fall into the fifth round. The third day of the draft, in particular, has been criticized for its slow pace, often described as a talk show interrupted by lengthy podium announcements.
Despite the decline, the draft remains a major television event, though some critics argue that real-time updates from online outlets reduce the need to watch the full broadcast.
