An AI-generated political advertisement supporting Los Angeles mayoral candidate Spencer Pratt has sparked widespread attention after conservative lawmakers and commentators hailed it as “maybe the best political ad of the year.”
The video, created by AI filmmaker Charles Curran, was shared on May 5, 2026, and draws inspiration from Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises. It depicts a dystopian version of Los Angeles, resembling Gotham City, ruled by an elite class in 16th-century wigs.
The ad features several high-profile political figures in satirical roles:
- Governor Gavin Newsom is shown eating cake and making controversial remarks, including telling a citizen, “If you were a transgender migrant, I could get you a free p-ssy,” in response to a plea about homelessness in school zones.
- Former Vice President Kamala Harris is depicted chugging a bottle of liquor and endorsing incumbent Mayor Karen Bass for reelection, stating, “Bass already solved crime. I endorse her.” Harris officially endorsed Bass on May 4, 2026.
- Mayor Karen Bass appears with Joker-inspired makeup, presiding over a chaotic scene in a grand ballroom where citizens plead for help with homelessness and rebuilding after fires.
The ad also includes an AI-generated citizen resembling actor Hugh Jackman and depicts Pratt’s competitor, City Councilmember Nithya Raman, as a puppet saying, “let’s move the drug addicts closer.”
Pratt, dressed as a Batman-inspired hero, arrives to save the city, accompanied by a young boy who throws the first tomato at Bass. The scene escalates into a food fight set to Calvin Harris’ EDM hit Feel So Close.
Reactions from Conservative Figures
Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush praised the ad in an X (formerly Twitter) post, calling it “maybe the best political ad of the year.” Clay Travis, founder of the right-wing media company OutKick, also lauded Pratt’s ads, describing them as “incredible.”
While Pratt’s campaign has stated that it did not commission the ad, the reality TV star reposted the video on his social media accounts. Curran confirmed to The Free Press that he used ByteDance’s Seedance generative AI tool to create the video. Curran is also the founder of his own production company, Menace Studio.
Pratt’s Campaign Gains Momentum
Pratt, a former reality star, launched his mayoral campaign after his home in the Palisades burned down. His other viral ads include a recent spot titled They Not Like Us, filmed at the site of his burned home. In the ad, Pratt contrasts his current living situation in an Airstream trailer with the living conditions of Bass and Raman, stating, “They don’t have to live in the mess they created where you live.”
