During a Senate hearing this week, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. claimed that artificial intelligence helped a dog owner cure their pet’s cancer. The statement drew sharp criticism from Alyssa Farah Griffin, co-host of The View, who reacted with disbelief on Thursday’s episode of the ABC talk show.

Kennedy, the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services, used his testimony to argue that AI would “revolutionize medicine,” even suggesting it could make the FDA “irrelevant.” He cited a story about a dog owner who allegedly used AI to develop a treatment plan that cured their pet’s cancer. However, this claim is false: while the dog’s tumor shrank, it was not cured.

“So listen, as a dog owner, I’m taking nothing off the table to cure my dog’s illness if he gets sick,” Farah Griffin said after reviewing Kennedy’s testimony. “But this is our expert. This is our expert, somebody who does not have a medical degree, who does not have a background in science.”

The Senate hearing also addressed other controversial topics, including vaccines, measles outbreaks, and drug pricing. Kennedy faced tough questioning but remained defiant. The The View co-hosts weighed in on the exchange, with Farah Griffin calling out Kennedy’s policies.

She highlighted his administration’s decision to defund mRNA vaccine research, despite recent breakthroughs that could lead to cures for diseases like pancreatic cancer.

“And Health and Human Services under RFK canceled $500 million in funding for mRNA vaccine research. That has real life consequences,” she said. “Everyday, experts who spent their lives dedicated to science, to research into medicine, are working to save lives, and these cuts to grants, that is — that is not getting nearly enough attention, and we’re going to feel the consequences for decades to come.”

Farah Griffin’s remarks underscored concerns about Kennedy’s scientific credibility and policy decisions. Watch the full discussion from The View in the video below:
