Apple CEO Tim Cook announced he will step down from his role on September 1, 2026, with John Ternus, Apple’s senior vice president of hardware engineering, named as his successor.

Cook will transition to the position of executive chairman of Apple’s board, where he will continue to support the company in key areas, including global policymaker engagement.

In a statement, Cook said he will remain as CEO through the summer to ensure a smooth transition with Ternus. He stated,

"It has been the greatest privilege of my life to be the CEO of Apple and to have been trusted to lead such an extraordinary team."
