BMW Alpina has teased its first full car ahead of its official unveiling on May 15 at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este. A single teaser image reveals the silhouette of a low-slung fastback coupe, parked on a cliff top, with long proportions and a tapered rear.

The concept, named Vision BMW Alpina, is not production-ready but offers the clearest preview yet of BMW’s vision for its newly absorbed sub-brand. While the number of doors remains unclear, the design suggests an elegant grand tourer rather than a conventional BMW model.

From Tuner to Bespoke Luxury

BMW completed its acquisition of Alpina in 2022, but this marks the first major project under full ownership. Traditionally, Alpina models—such as the X7-based XB7 Manufaktur—were enhanced versions of existing BMWs. However, the Vision BMW Alpina hints at a shift toward more bespoke, exclusive offerings.

According to Autocar, future Alpina products will prioritize comfort, refinement, luxury, and personalization over outright performance. BMW Group R&D boss Joachim Post stated,

‘We will talk not about sport but speed, comfort, and luxury.’
This philosophy aligns with Alpina’s historical focus on fast autobahn cruisers with discreet styling and lavish cabins.

The Rolls-Royce Influence

Excitement is building around the reported involvement of Alex Innes, the former Rolls-Royce coachbuild designer behind the Boat Tail and La Rose Noire Droptail. His potential contribution suggests a design with a high wow factor.

The choice of Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este as the debut venue is deliberate. Unlike conventional auto shows, this prestigious concours event emphasizes design and elegance. BMW has previously used the event to debut concepts like the Concept Skytop and Concept XM, some of which later entered limited production.

What’s Next for Alpina?

The Vision BMW Alpina concept signals a new direction for the brand, moving beyond its traditional role as a BMW performance tuner. While not production-ready, it provides the first clear glimpse into Alpina’s future as a standalone luxury marque under BMW’s umbrella.
