The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have officially exercised the fifth-year option on defensive tackle Calijah Kancey’s contract, securing his services through the 2027 season.

The Bucs announced the decision on Monday, guaranteeing Kancey a salary of $15.451 million for the 2027 campaign. While the fifth-year option is now locked in, the team has not ruled out the possibility of negotiating a multi-year contract extension with Kancey in the future.

Kancey’s durability has been a concern in his early career. He missed all but three games last season due to a torn pectoral muscle and sat out eight games over his first two seasons with various injuries. Despite these setbacks, he has been a consistent performer when healthy.

Since entering the NFL, Kancey has started 28 of the 29 regular season games he has appeared in, along with all three postseason contests. His career totals include 55 tackles, 11.5 sacks, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery in the regular season. In playoff action, he has added seven tackles and 1.5 sacks.
