Cole Tomas Allen, the suspect arrested following a shooting at the White House Correspondents' Dinner, was charged on Monday with attempting to assassinate President Donald Trump, according to reports from AP and other media outlets.
Allen, a 31-year-old teacher from Torrance, California, was taken into federal custody after the shooting on Saturday night. He was formally charged in federal court in Washington, D.C., on Monday morning.
Federal prosecutors have filed three criminal charges against Allen, including:
- Attempt to assassinate the President of the United States, a federal offense punishable by life imprisonment;
- Assault with a dangerous weapon;
- Discharging a firearm during a crime of violence.
The charges stem from an incident at the Washington Hilton Hotel in Washington, D.C., where the White House Correspondents' Dinner was being held on April 27, 2025.
