Christopher Nolan Reveals ‘The Odyssey’ Runtime Compared to ‘Oppenheimer’
Christopher Nolan has confirmed that his highly anticipated film ‘The Odyssey’ will be shorter than his 2023 Best Picture winner ‘Oppenheimer’, which ran for three hours.
Nolan Addresses Runtime and Epic Scale
In an interview with the Associated Press published on Tuesday, Nolan stated that while ‘The Odyssey’ will have a reduced runtime, it will still deliver an epic experience.
“It’s an epic film, as the subject matter demands. But it is shorter.”
Nolan emphasized the immense pressure of adapting Homer’s timeless story, acknowledging the weight of fan expectations.
“There’s a massive amount of pressure. Anyone taking on ‘The Odyssey’ is taking on the hopes and dreams of people for epic movies everywhere, and that comes with a huge responsibility.”
Nolan’s Approach to Storytelling and Fan Expectations
Reflecting on his experience with beloved franchises like The Dark Knight trilogy, Nolan stressed the importance of delivering a sincere and strong interpretation of cherished stories.
“What I learned from [making ‘The Dark Knight’ trilogy] is that what people want from a movie about a beloved story, a beloved set of characters, is they want a strong and sincere interpretation. They want to know that a filmmaker has gone to the mat for it. I really tried to make the best film possible.”
