How to Unlock Torment Difficulties in Diablo 4 (Lord of Hatred)

The Torment difficulty system in Diablo 4 has been updated with the release of the Lord of Hatred DLC. While the system still scales rewards with difficulty, the tiers and bonuses have changed significantly.

To unlock the new Torment difficulties, follow these steps:

  • Reach Level 60 — Previously, the system required the level cap (70) with the Vessel of Hatred DLC.
  • Unlock the Artificer's Obelisk — This is tied to reaching Level 60.
  • Clear Tier 10 of The Pit — This is the primary requirement to access Torment difficulties. Higher tiers of The Pit must be cleared for subsequent Torment levels.

Note: There are no additional hard requirements. The system applies to both Eternal and Seasonal characters. Unlocking Torment is just the first step—there are 12 tiers to progress through.

All Torment Difficulty Bonuses in Diablo 4 (Lord of Hatred)

Higher Torment tiers increase difficulty but also offer better rewards, including rare loot and exclusive items. Below are all 12 tiers and their bonuses:

Torment I Unlocks endgame activities, 300% EXP, 100% Gold, unlocks Ancestral Items, better chances at Legendary, Mythic, and Unique gear
Torment II 400% EXP, 120% Gold, better chances at Ancestral items, more Scroll of Restoration drops, more Legendary Temper Manuals drops
Torment III 500% EXP, 140% Gold, more chances of Set Charms drops
Torment IV 600% EXP, 160% Gold, more chances of Neathiron drops
Torment V 700% EXP, 180% Gold, more chances of Legendary Rune drops
Torment VI 800% EXP, 200% Gold, more chances to get Greater Lair keys
Torment VII 900% EXP, 225% Gold, more chances for Volatile Primordial Dust drops
Torment VIII 1000% EXP, 250% Gold, more chances to get Unique Charms
Torment IX 1100% EXP, 275% Gold, more chances for Kullena Tuning Prisms drops
Torment X 1200% EXP, 300% Gold, more chances for Mythic Horadic Seals drops
Torment XI 1300% EXP, 300% Gold
Torment XII 1400% EXP, 300% Gold
