Hulu announced on Tuesday that ‘The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives’ would resume production over a month after halting filming due to a domestic violence scandal involving star Taylor Frankie Paul and her ex-boyfriend Dakota Mortensen. However, cameras are not yet rolling, as the series remains in the pre-production phase, according to Rob Mills, Executive Vice President of Unscripted and Alternative Entertainment at Walt Disney Television.

Mills told TheWrap ahead of Wednesday’s Get Real reality showcase that Disney is proceeding cautiously. “We now have to look and say, ‘OK, what are the stories we’re focusing on? What are we shooting?’” he explained. “Given the setbacks the season has seen so far, we’re happy to take those steps.”

Addressing the challenges of restarting production, Mills emphasized the importance of ensuring all parties—including producers and cast members—were in a stable position. “It really was just checking on everybody and making sure we didn’t do anything until everybody was in a good place,” he said.

Mills declined to comment on how much of the new season would address Paul’s domestic violence incidents or her pulled season of ‘The Bachelorette’, which was canceled by ABC days before its debut following the emergence of video footage allegedly showing an incident. “Remember, this is an ensemble cast, so I think it’s about the stories of everyone [and] where they are in their lives,” he noted.

While Mills confirmed the full cast is returning for the new season, he did not address Mortensen’s potential involvement. Mortensen was notably cut from an appearance on Hulu’s ‘Vanderpump Villa’.

“We’re really just figuring out what this next season looks like,” Mills said. “We’re really taking everything a day at a time.” The release date for the season remains undecided, with Mills stating, “we’re sort of starting from scratch, then we will figure out when is the best time for us to … air the show.”

Regarding Paul’s canceled ‘The Bachelorette’ season, Mills indicated its future is uncertain. “We take everything a day at a time,” he said. “We’re sort of really still processing everything and figuring out … planning for the next cycles of ‘The Bachelor’ franchise.”

Mills also revealed that ABC is moving forward with a new season of ‘The Bachelor’ for midseason in the 2026-27 TV schedule, followed by ‘Bachelor in Paradise’ in summer 2025. Both shows have been renewed, though details about the next ‘Bachelorette’ season remain unclear.
