Texas A&M running back E.J. Smith, son of Pro Football Hall of Famer Emmitt Smith, has signed with the Kansas City Chiefs as an undrafted free agent. The decision follows his participation in Dallas Day, the Cowboys' annual workout for local prospects, which initially fueled speculation about a potential Cowboys signing.

Smith took to Instagram to announce his move, stating:

"Excited to officially sign with the Kansas City Chiefs as a free agent. Nothing is given. Everything is earned. I’m ready to work, learn, and prove myself every single day. Thank you to my family, coaches, teammates, and everyone who believed in me and pushed me to this moment. The journey hasn’t been easy, but every challenge prepared me for this next step. Grateful is an understatement. All glory to God for this opportunity. Let’s get it Chiefs Kingdom."

Smith’s college career spanned six seasons, including four at Stanford and two at Texas A&M. Despite limited carries in 2025—44 attempts for 205 yards and four touchdowns, along with four receptions for 18 yards—he made key contributions in critical moments. Notably, he secured a first down on fourth-and-1 at his own 34-yard line against Arkansas, overcoming a collision in the backfield with tight end Micah Riley. Additionally, Smith made three crucial blocks on an 80-yard punt return by K.C. Concepcion in a game against UTSA.

Over his collegiate career, Smith amassed 207 carries for 969 yards and nine touchdowns, while also contributing 470 receiving yards and one touchdown.
