Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren has intensified her criticism of Republican lawmakers, accusing them of growing more embarrassed by Donald Trump’s presidency amid the U.S. conflict with Iran. Warren made the remarks during an appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert on Thursday night.

Colbert reminded Warren of her earlier observation that GOP members were avoiding eye contact with Democrats on Capitol Hill due to their perceived shame over supporting Trump. Warren doubled down on that claim, stating that Republicans now keep their heads down entirely as they pass Democrats, saying,

"Their eyes just glued to the floor all the time, because they truly do understand."

She attributed their discomfort to Trump’s perceived incompetence in handling the Iran conflict, stating,

"The president and his team cannot explain why we went to war, what the strategy is in this war, what will constitute winning this war, how to get out of this war, and the number one thing they cannot explain is how this war is helping one single person in the United States of America."

Warren urged Republicans to collaborate with Democrats to end the war, declaring,

"It is time for those Republicans to help the Democrats and put an end to this war right now."
Her remarks were met with sustained applause from the audience.

Colbert questioned what further action Republicans could take, given that Trump launched the military action in the Middle East without congressional approval. Warren responded by referencing the War Powers Act, a law that grants Congress the authority to halt military actions until a formal vote can be held.

"We actually already have laws in place called the War Powers Act, where Congress can simply say you have to put a stop to this until Congress has a chance to come in and vote," she explained. "Congress, according to the Constitution, is the only one that can declare war."

Warren emphasized that Congress retains the power to intervene, regardless of any potential violations by Trump.

"Congress does have the power to say stop," she said. "I think of it kind of like, in case you have a president who has violated the Constitution, it’s like an emergency break in a car that has lost its breaks otherwise."

She added that lawmakers have repeatedly pushed for a bill to end the conflict but have been blocked by Republicans.

"We’re just going to keep putting this bill forward and making them vote on it until finally somebody on that side grows a spine and does it."

Warren concluded by warning that the war’s economic and humanitarian consequences would impact Americans’ livelihoods, stating,

"Donald Trump and Pete Hegseth are out there bombing halfway around
[the world] without clear objectives or benefits for the U.S.
