Buick has officially launched the Electra E7, a new plug-in hybrid SUV, exclusively in China. The midsize crossover combines a sleek design with a long-range powertrain and upscale interior, all at a price point that has generated significant consumer interest.

Within just 90 minutes of its official launch, the Electra E7 received 10,000 orders, according to Buick. The SUV is priced at approximately $23,000 in China, a figure that underscores its competitive positioning in the market.

General Motors has now released full specifications and pricing details for the Electra E7. Below is a breakdown of the model’s key features, design, and powertrain options.

Design and Exterior

The Electra E7 features a modern and sophisticated exterior design. Its front end is dominated by a shark nose grille, split lighting units, and a central intake with an active shutter system. The C-shaped daytime running lights are positioned at the top, while L-shaped headlights are mounted lower on the bumper.

The SUV’s profile includes soft curves, plastic body cladding, streamlined door handles, pronounced wheel arches, and metallic accents. At the rear, the Electra E7 sports distinctive “galaxy wing” taillights and a prominent rear spoiler.

In terms of dimensions, the Electra E7 measures:

  • Length: 190.9 inches (4,850 mm)
  • Wheelbase: 112.2 inches (2,850 mm)

This makes the E7 8.2 inches (208 mm) longer than the Buick Envision but 16.7 inches (424 mm) shorter than the Buick Enclave.

Interior and Features

The Electra E7’s interior is designed for comfort and luxury, with a minimalist yet elegant approach. The driver’s area features a flat-bottom steering wheel and a freestanding digital instrument cluster. The centerpiece is a 15.6-inch infotainment system, mounted on the dashboard like a large tablet.

High-quality materials are used throughout, including Oeko-Tex upholstery and genuine metal accents. Additional premium features include:

  • Illuminated trim
  • Dual wireless smartphone chargers
  • Dual glass roofs
  • Second-row climate controls
  • Heated and ventilated seats
  • Rear tray tables
  • A 20-speaker Dolby Atmos audio system

The second row is particularly spacious, offering a refrigerator and a 15.6-inch ceiling-mounted entertainment system. The front seats fold flat, transforming the rear into a lounge area for relaxation. The second-row backrest also reclines for added comfort.

Powertrain and Performance

The Electra E7 is powered by a plug-in hybrid system available in two configurations:

Entry-Level Variant

  • 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine: 97 hp (72 kW / 98 PS)
  • Electric motor: 221 hp (165 kW / 224 PS)

Flagship Variant

  • 1.5-liter turbocharged engine: 154 hp (115 kW / 156 PS)
  • Electric motor: 221 hp (165 kW / 224 PS)
  • Combined output: 375 hp (280 kW / 381 PS)

Buick claims the flagship PHEV can accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 7 seconds.

The combined range of the Electra E7’s plug-in hybrid system is an impressive 1,013 miles, making it a strong contender in the Chinese EV market.

Availability and Market Focus

As of now, the Buick Electra E7 is exclusively available in China. The rapid uptake of 10,000 orders in just 90 minutes highlights the model’s strong appeal in the region. Buick has not announced plans to bring the Electra E7 to the U.S. market at this time.
