FBI Opens Criminal Investigation into Atlantic Journalist
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has launched a criminal leak investigation into Sarah Fitzpatrick, a reporter for The Atlantic, over an article she authored that detailed multiple alleged incidents of heavy drinking and erratic behavior by FBI Director Kash Patel while managing the bureau.
According to MS NOW, the FBI has not responded to requests for comment regarding the investigation. However, bureau spokesperson Ben Williamson denied the existence of such an investigation to MS NOW.
Atlantic Editor-in-Chief Condemns Probe as Attack on Press Freedom
The Atlantic has not issued an immediate public response, but its Editor-in-Chief, Jeffrey Goldberg, told MS NOW that any such investigation would constitute an "outrageous, illegal, and dangerous attack on the free press and the First Amendment."
"We will defend Sarah and all of our reporters who are subjected to government harassment simply for pursuing the truth," Goldberg stated.
Next Steps and Implications
Further developments in this case are pending. The investigation, if confirmed, raises significant concerns about press freedom and the potential targeting of journalists for reporting on public officials.
