The classic automotive rivalries of the past have faded. The Ford Mustang no longer battles the Chevy Camaro or Dodge Challenger—two of those models are discontinued. The RAV4 and CR-V rivalry remains, but the most compelling sales battle today is between the Ford Bronco and Jeep Wrangler.

As of early 2026, the Bronco is ahead. A comparison of first-quarter sales reveals a tight race: 48,270 Broncos were delivered since January 1, compared to 44,461 Wranglers—a difference of 3,809 units. Both models saw year-over-year growth, with the Wrangler up 17% and the Bronco increasing by 2.7%.

Ford Bronco’s Record-Breaking 2025 Performance

Ford achieved its best-ever year for Bronco sales in 2025, with 146,007 units sold—a milestone reached months before year-end. While the Wrangler outsold the Bronco in total volume, Ford celebrated a 30% year-over-year increase. A company spokesperson stated at the time,

‘Bronco at retail continues to be the best seller in its segment.’

Jeep’s Fleet Sales Advantage

Jeep maintains a key advantage through fleet sales, where base-model Broncos are rarely seen on rental lots. Instead, white Wrangler Sports dominate, contributing significantly to Jeep’s totals. This strategy has helped the Wrangler retain its sales lead since Ford introduced the sixth-generation Bronco in 2021. In 2025, Jeep sold 167,000 Wranglers, surpassing Ford by approximately 21,000 units.

What’s Next for the Bronco vs. Wrangler Battle?

Uncertainty looms as fuel prices rise, potentially reshaping consumer preferences. However, seasonal trends may favor open-top SUVs as warmer weather approaches. Trail enthusiasts and casual drivers alike are drawn to the freedom of off-road adventures—a marketing advantage for both brands.
