Jessica Chastain Confirms Apple TV’s 'The Savant' Is Back on Track for July Release

The Savant, Apple TV’s highly anticipated thriller series starring Jessica Chastain, is back on track after being abruptly shelved in 2025. The series, based on a Cosmopolitan profile of an anonymous investigator for the American Defamation League, infiltrates online hate groups to prevent public attacks.

The show was pulled from Apple TV’s release schedule just three days before its planned premiere on September 26, 2025. Apple did not provide a reason for the delay, which followed the September 10 assassination of right-wing activist Charlie Kirk. Deadline reported that the series includes depictions of a sniper in action and the bombing of a government building.

Chastain addressed the delay in a recent interview with Variety, stating,

"Before it was like, ‘I don’t know if we’re going to see it,’ but now I can say, ‘We’re going to see it.’"

Chastain’s Statement on the Delay

When The Savant was shelved, Chastain took to Instagram to express her disagreement with Apple’s decision. She wrote,

"In the last five years since we’ve been making the show, we’ve seen an unfortunate amount of violence in the United States: the kidnapping attempt on Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer; the January 6th attack on the Capitol; the assassination attempts on President Trump; the political assassinations of Democratic representatives in Minnesota; the attack on Speaker Pelosi’s husband; the assassination of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk; the recent shooting at an ABC affiliate station in California; and over 300 school shootings across this country."

She added,

"These incidents, though far from encompassing the full range of violence witnessed in the United States, illustrate a broader mindset that crosses the political spectrum and must be confronted. I’ve never shied away from difficult subjects, and while I wish this show wasn’t so relevant, unfortunately it is."

The Savant stars Jessica Chastain, Pablo Schreiber (Halo), and James Badge Dale (The Pacific). The series is directed by Janusz Kamiński, a longtime collaborator of Steven Spielberg, and is created by Canadian playwright Melissa James Gibson for Apple TV.
