Joy Behar, a longtime co-host of ABC’s The View, has a playful take on the rise of artificial intelligence in media. While she remains on the show for now, she jokingly expressed her excitement about the possibility of being replaced by an AI version of herself.
During Friday’s Hot Topics segment, Behar and her co-hosts discussed a recent revelation involving a prominent MAGA influencer who was exposed as an AI-generated avatar. The influencer, identified only as Sam, is a 22-year-old medical student in India who created the fake account to earn money.
The hosts highlighted the potential dangers of AI, but Behar couldn’t resist a lighthearted remark about the technology’s capabilities.
"All I know is I can’t wait for AI Joy Behar to replace me on this table," she joked.
According to a Wired report published this week, the influencer known as Emily Hart was revealed to be an AI avatar created by Sam. In an interview with the publication, Sam admitted the scam was surprisingly easy because "the MAGA crowd is made up of dumb people — like, super dumb people."
The View co-hosts found the situation both amusing and concerning, noting multiple red flags that fooled many followers. Ana Navarro pointed out that if Sam had been operating in the U.S., his deception might have led to deportation due to racial biases.
Alyssa Farah Griffin acknowledged the humor in the situation but emphasized the broader dangers of AI-generated content online.
"It’s an absolute hellscape and we have elected leaders who are doing absolutely nothing to try to crack down on it," she said.
The View airs weekdays at 11 a.m. ET on ABC.
