Microsoft has begun testing its Automatic Super Resolution (Auto SR) feature on the Xbox Ally X handheld gaming device, specifically for docked play. This marks an expansion of the technology, which initially launched on select Copilot Plus PCs nearly two years ago.
Auto SR is designed to improve visual quality and frame rates in supported games, addressing common issues that arise when playing on larger screens. Microsoft highlighted the challenges of docked gaming, where higher resolutions and bigger displays can expose drops in image quality or performance drops in certain titles.
In a detailed blog post, Microsoft explained:
"Docked play means larger screens and higher resolutions, where drops in image quality are more noticeable or where some games struggle to maintain smooth FPS. That's exactly the problem Auto SR was designed to solve."
The feature is now being tested on the Xbox Ally X, allowing the 7-inch handheld to enhance resolution and graphical settings when connected to a TV via docked mode. This development could provide Xbox Ally X users with a more seamless and visually refined gaming experience on larger displays.
