Newly released photos from the New York Post show New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel and NFL reporter Dianna Russini at an adults-only resort in Sedona, Arizona. The images were captured while Russini was employed by ESPN, raising concerns about potential conflicts of interest in her reporting.

ESPN has declined to comment following an inquiry from ProFootballTalk regarding the matter.

The photos, first published by the New York Post, were taken after March 2020, a period that includes Russini’s tenure at ESPN. This development follows earlier images that surfaced while she worked for The Athletic, prompting that organization to review her reporting after her resignation.

Russini’s Reporting Under Scrutiny: The Julio Jones Trade Case

One of Russini’s most scrutinized reports came in May 2021, when she stated that the Atlanta Falcons "have discussed several offers for wide receiver Julio Jones, including an offer of a future first-round draft pick." The report, published under the headline "Atlanta Falcons have offer of a 1st-round pick for Julio Jones, sources say", suggested that the Falcons had received a concrete offer involving a first-round selection.

Russini also downplayed the Tennessee Titans’ chances of acquiring Jones, describing their pursuit as a "long shot." At the time, Vrabel served as the Titans’ head coach. Ultimately, the Titans secured Jones in exchange for a 2022 second-round pick and a 2023 fourth-round pick, along with a 2023 sixth-round pick from the Falcons.

Critics argue that Russini’s reporting may have influenced other teams’ willingness to pursue Jones. By suggesting the Falcons had a first-round offer on the table, her report could have deterred potential suitors offering second-round picks. Additionally, labeling the Titans as a "long shot" allowed them to negotiate quietly for Jones without drawing unnecessary attention.

Did Reporting Favor the Titans?

The timing and nature of Russini’s reporting have led to speculation about whether her work was connected to Vrabel’s efforts to secure Jones on favorable terms. This raises further questions about her recent reporting on Eagles receiver A.J. Brown, given her relationship with Vrabel.

The newly released photos, taken during her time at ESPN, may explain why the network took longer to address the controversy surrounding her reporting. If her work was influenced by personal relationships, ESPN’s credibility could be at risk.
