Apple TV has released the highly anticipated trailer for Star City, a new spinoff of the hit series For All Mankind. The trailer follows the release of a brief teaser earlier this year, offering a deeper look into the show’s Cold War-era narrative.

Unlike its parent series, Star City shifts focus to the Soviet perspective of the space race, immersing viewers in a world of espionage, secrecy, and high-stakes lunar ambitions. The trailer depicts secretive photo snapping, wiretapped phones, and disappearances, all set against the backdrop of space exploration—a stark contrast to the tone of For All Mankind.

The shift isn’t just thematic. Star City diverges from its predecessor by eschewing the time jumps that define For All Mankind. Showrunners Matt Wolpert and Ben Nedivi describe the spinoff as “its own genre,” set firmly in the 1970s rather than spanning decades.

For context, For All Mankind begins with an alternate history where the Soviet Union lands on the Moon in the 1960s, triggering a ripple effect that reshapes global events. Star City appears to explore how Russia achieved this milestone and the immediate consequences for its space program. The cast includes Rhys Ifans, Anna Maxwell Martin, Agnes O’Casey, and Alice Englert.

Star City premieres on May 29, coinciding with the conclusion of season five of For All Mankind. The original series was recently renewed for a sixth and final season.

Apple TV continues to solidify its reputation as a premier destination for sci-fi content. This summer, the platform will debut not only Star City but also the second season of the multiverse thriller Dark Matter and season three of the dystopian adventure Silo. Apple TV’s sci-fi lineup also includes Pluribus, Severance, and Foundation, among others.
