Amazon has struck a multiyear licensing deal with Oprah Winfrey, expanding her podcast to its streaming ecosystem. The agreement will make her podcast available on Prime Video, Amazon Music, Fire TV channels, and Audible, with new episodes releasing twice weekly starting in July.

According to Variety, Winfrey will maintain her existing podcast format, which she launched on YouTube at the end of 2024. The show features interviews with authors, celebrities, and other public figures.

In addition to the podcast expansion, Winfrey will produce specials based on her Oprah's Favorite Things and Oprah’s Book Club franchises exclusively for Amazon. The company is also licensing all 25 seasons of The Oprah Winfrey Show, though plans for repurposing the iconic talk show remain undecided.

Amazon’s Podcast Strategy and Revenue Split

Last year, Amazon reorganized its podcast operations, splitting Wondery into two divisions. One team merged with Audible to focus on narrative podcasts, while another formed Creator Services, which promotes celebrity-hosted shows like New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce and Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard across Amazon’s platforms.

Winfrey’s Oprah’s Book Club will integrate with Audible, Kindle, Goodreads, and the Amazon storefront. Products from her annual Oprah’s Favorite Things holiday list will also be featured on the Amazon storefront. Winfrey and Amazon will share sales and advertising revenue from the podcast and related content.

Industry Trends and Fan Appeal

Major media companies have increasingly pursued popular podcasts in recent years, particularly as video podcasts grow in popularity. Companies like Netflix have also entered the space. Winfrey’s podcast may attract fans of her long-running TV show, which concluded in 2011.
