Canva, the popular graphic design platform, has apologized after one of its new AI features, Magic Layers, was caught replacing the word "Palestine" with "Ukraine" in user designs.
The feature, designed to break flat images into separate editable components, was found by X user @ros_ie9 to automatically alter the phrase "cats for Palestine" to "cats for Ukraine."
According to the report, the issue appeared to be specific to the word "Palestine," as other related terms like "Gaza" remained unaffected.
Canva has since acknowledged the issue and confirmed that it has been resolved. The company stated in a response that it is taking steps to prevent similar incidents in the future.
"We became aware of an issue …"
This incident highlights ongoing concerns about the accuracy and sensitivity of AI-powered tools in design and content creation.
