Whataburger, the Texas fast food chain famous for its made-to-order burgers, is continuing its nationwide expansion with 15 new locations set to open by the end of June. The brand, often described as the "hometown burger place that hasn’t compromised," first announced its growth strategy in 2020 after being acquired by BDT Capital Partners the previous year.

The chain has since focused its expansion efforts primarily in Southern states, including Tennessee, Missouri, and Florida. At the time of the announcement, Whataburger emphasized its commitment to franchising for the first time in nearly two decades, stating:

"Whataburger also will begin franchising our restaurants for the first time in almost 20 years. This will allow us to open more restaurants in more areas – more quickly and efficiently – while providing job opportunities and investing in the communities we serve."

Since the expansion began, Whataburger has grown significantly. The chain now operates over 1,100 locations across 17 states, with 720 of those in Texas alone. Unlike many modern fast food chains, most Whataburger restaurants remain open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, closing only on Christmas Day.

Customer reactions to the expansion have been overwhelmingly positive. On social media, fans have praised the chain’s growth and the quality of its burgers. One user on X (formerly Twitter) declared:

"In n Out is a good burger. I like it. That being said, Whataburger is just better."

A recent TikTok review also highlighted the freshness and customization options of Whataburger’s menu, with the reviewer captioning their video: "A big YES from me."

The 15 new locations will include:

  • Texas: Laredo, Flower Mound, San Antonio, Odessa, Fort Worth, Georgetown
  • Arizona: Glendale (first location in the state)
  • Florida: Brandon, Pensacola
  • Tennessee: Nashville, Columbia
  • North Carolina: Garner, Southern Pines
  • South Carolina: Rock Hill (first location in the state)
  • Georgia: Carrollton

In addition to the new locations, Whataburger announced on Tuesday, May 5, the introduction of a new kids meal program. The updated meals will feature interactive packaging, collectible toys, and surprise gifts, including sticker packs. The chain noted:

"Starting Tuesday, May 5, families can expect new interactive packaging, collectible toys, and a little extra magic in every box."

Whataburger added that new surprise gifts will roll out throughout the year, giving kids additional incentives to visit.
