China’s automotive market provides consumers with multiple entry-level options, many priced under or around $10,000. Affordable electric vehicles (EVs) are particularly common, ranging from microcars to traditional hatchbacks.
Geely’s EX2, priced at just $10,060, was the best-selling car in China in 2025. Despite its low cost, the all-electric hatchback includes features such as a front trunk, ample storage, and a 14.6-inch touchscreen running Geely’s operating system. The top-end model offers a range of 255 miles (410 km) on China’s EV test cycle.
The Beijing Auto Show, the largest on record, featured over 180 new car premieres and more than 1,400 vehicles on display. While concept cars and design studies drew attention, the event underscored the intense competition and significantly lower prices in China compared to the US.
According to Kelley Blue Book, the average price of a new car in the US reached $51,456 in March. Meanwhile, China boasts over 200 electric models, including plug-in hybrids, available for under $25,000, as reported by industry website DCar.
