Apple’s rumored AirPods Pro 3, equipped with AI-powered cameras, are advancing toward a critical production milestone, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.
The tech giant is nearing the stage where it will initiate early mass production tests. Currently, Apple testers are actively using prototypes that are in the design validation test phase—a stage just before the production validation test.
AI Cameras: Function Over Form
The cameras integrated into the AirPods Pro 3 are not intended for photography or video recording. Instead, they are designed to capture low-resolution visual information that users can query via Siri. For example, a user could ask Siri, “What can I cook with the ingredients in front of me?” and the AI assistant would analyze the visual data to provide relevant suggestions.
Additionally, the cameras may assist with other tasks, such as providing turn-by-turn navigation or enhancing augmented reality (AR) experiences.
Next Steps in Development
With prototypes already in the hands of testers, Apple is progressing toward the next phase of development. The transition from design validation to production validation testing indicates that the AirPods Pro 3 are on track for a potential release in the near future.
