Audi has officially introduced the new E7X crossover at Auto China 2024 in Beijing, marking the brand’s second ringless model after the E5 Sportback and its first entry into the crossover segment. Developed in collaboration with SAIC, the E7X follows the design language of the E5 Sportback while introducing a streamlined front fascia featuring a distinctive “black wraparound loop.”

The model is equipped with a fully enclosed grille incorporating a Light Frame that remains invisible when inactive. Upon activation, over 1,000 triangular lights illuminate the grille. Additional exterior features include slender daytime running lights, vertical Digital Matrix LED headlights, digital rearview mirrors, frameless doors, and a rakish windscreen that transitions into a sloping roof. The E7X also boasts flush-mounted door handles, aerodynamically optimized wheels, and an oval-shaped rear light surround.

In terms of dimensions, the E7X measures 198.8 inches (5,049 mm) in length, 78.6 inches (1,997 mm) in width, and 67.3 inches (1,710 mm) in height, with a wheelbase spanning 120.5 inches (3,060 mm). This makes the crossover slightly shorter than the Q7 but with an additional 2.6 inches (66 mm) between the wheels.

Minimalist yet High-Tech Interior

Stepping inside, drivers are greeted by a flat-bottom steering wheel and a full-width 4K panoramic display spanning 59 inches. The display integrates video feeds from the camera mirrors at the outer edges. The interior blends cutting-edge technology with luxury, featuring Nappa leather, premium wood trim, slatted door inlays, ambient lighting, and a Bose premium audio system with up to 26 speakers.

A panoramic sunroof, split into two sections with smart-dimming technology, offers multiple levels of transparency. The E7X is available in both four- and five-seat configurations, with the four-seat version highlighted by two individual zero-gravity rear seats that recline 120 degrees. These seats offer a 16-point massage and a pneumatic adjustment system with 23 airbags, complemented by four-way adaptive headrests and an integrated electric footrest. The seats are separated by an elegant console with an integrated display and storage compartments, including a warming/cooling compartment at the rear of the front center console for beverages and other items.

For rear passengers, a 21.4-inch rear-seat entertainment system deploys from the headliner and can be controlled via voice, remote, or touchscreen.

AI-Powered In-Car Assistant

Audi has equipped the E7X with AUDI Assistant 2.0, an AI-powered in-car companion developed in collaboration with ByteDance. This advanced system goes beyond traditional voice control, managing vehicle functions, answering navigation and range queries, playing music, and engaging in open-ended conversations on virtually any topic.

Two Powertrains and Fast Recharging

The E7X is built on Audi’s Advanced Digitized Platform and will be offered with two powertrain options. While specific details about the powertrains remain under wraps, Audi has confirmed that the E7X will support fast recharging capabilities. The model is set to launch later this year with a claimed range of up to 466 miles (750 kilometers).

While China will be the first market to receive the E7X, the United States will get the updated Q7 as part of Audi’s global rollout strategy.
