The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has released new contamination testing results confirming the safety of infant formula in the United States. The agency announced its findings on Wednesday.
The FDA tested 312 samples from 16 infant formula brands for a range of contaminants, including heavy metals, pesticides, and per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), often referred to as “forever chemicals.”
The vast majority of samples showed undetectable or very low levels of these contaminants, according to the agency. Specifically, levels of lead, mercury, cadmium, and arsenic in all samples were found to be below federal requirements for drinking water.
The FDA’s findings underscore the safety of infant formula available in the U.S. market, addressing concerns about potential exposure to harmful substances in these critical products.
