Formula 1 veteran Fernando Alonso has acquired a one-off Pagani Zonda Diamante Verde, a striking supercar valued at over $10 million. The purchase comes amid Aston Martin’s disappointing run in the 2024 Formula 1 season, prompting speculation that Alonso may be seeking distraction from the team’s struggles.
The bespoke Zonda was delivered to Alonso in Monaco several weeks ago. The car had been held in the inventory of German company Mechatronik since at least 2024, awaiting a wealthy buyer. While Mechatronik has not disclosed the purchase price, one-off Zonda 760 models typically trade for over $10 million, suggesting Alonso’s investment may equate to roughly six months of his annual salary of approximately $20 million.
Alonso Joins Elite Company of Zonda Owners
Alonso is not the first Formula 1 driver to own a Pagani Zonda. Fellow F1 legend Lewis Hamilton famously commissioned the one-off Zonda 760LH over a decade ago. At the time, it was only the second 760 model produced by Pagani. Hamilton sold the car in late 2021 after seven years of ownership.
A Unique and Striking Design
The Zonda Diamante Verde stands out with its fully exposed carbon-fiber body, a rarity among Zondas. Unlike other exposed carbon models, this one incorporates green metallic flakes into the carbon weave. The car also features distinctive green accents, including the front bumper, wheel arches, and rear wing endplates.
Powering the Zonda is a 7.3-liter naturally-aspirated V12 engine sourced from AMG. Compared to Alonso’s F1 car, the Zonda boasts twice as many cylinders and nearly five times the engine capacity.
