A nearly new Gordon Murray Automotive T.50 hypercar with fewer than 30 miles (48 km) on its odometer has sold at auction for $8.035 million—over double its original sticker price of just over $3 million.

The red T.50, chassis number 009 of the 100-unit limited run, was auctioned by Broad Arrow Auctions during the recent California Mille driving event. Prior to the sale, estimates placed its value between $8 million and $10 million. The final bid of $8.035 million exceeded the $5.63 million paid for a silver T.50 at auction in December 2025.

Why the T.50 Is Becoming a Blue-Chip Collector’s Car

The T.50’s astronomical price surge mirrors the trajectory of its spiritual predecessor, the McLaren F1. Originally priced at just over $3 million in the U.S., the T.50 does not meet local emissions and safety standards, meaning it can only be driven under the Show or Display exemption. Despite these limitations, demand remains exceptionally high among elite collectors.

Part of the car’s allure may stem from its charitable ties. A portion of the auction proceeds will benefit the California Highway Patrol 11-99 Foundation and McPherson College’s Automotive Restoration Program, potentially offering tax advantages to the buyer.

Expert Reactions to the Record Sale

“The T.50 result is another spectacular example of the strength of the supercar market among today’s most active collectors. This nearly unobtainable icon from the legendary Gordon Murray is one of the cars to have, and we were honored to present it to a room of some of the world’s preeminent collectors and driving enthusiasts along one of the most beautiful tours in the hobby.”

A Driver’s Car or a Museum Piece?

The T.50 is powered by a naturally aspirated 3.9-liter Cosworth V12 engine, a hallmark of Gordon Murray’s engineering philosophy. With only 100 units produced, each chassis is a rare blend of performance and exclusivity. Broad Arrow Auctions emphasized the car’s driving potential, noting that the new owner may choose to enjoy the experience rather than treat it as a static display piece.

As the market for ultra-high-end hypercars continues to evolve, the T.50’s record sale underscores the enduring appeal of handcrafted, driver-focused machines in an increasingly digital automotive landscape.
