Former FBI Director James Comey has issued a stark warning: the Department of Justice (DOJ) under Donald Trump no longer commands public trust. In a recent appearance, Comey argued that the public can no longer assume criminal investigations or indictments are legitimate due to Trump’s perceived control over the agency.

The default assumption, Comey stated, is that official DOJ actions now serve Trump’s interests—whether for validation, power, or retribution. He cited the latest indictments against him, which he described as "seashell-related charges," as an example of politically motivated prosecutions.

Comey also criticized Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, accusing him of acting like a "mobster" and openly displaying partisanship. "He wears his partisanship on his sleeve," Comey said, suggesting Blanche may be breaking the law himself.

At the FBI, Comey expressed concern over the leadership of Kash Patel, who oversees a "smaller, demoralized, and distracted" workforce. This, he warned, poses a threat to national security and the integrity of law enforcement.

Comey’s remarks come amid broader concerns about accountability in a post-Trump era, as well as increased scrutiny of journalists investigating the administration. His comments were made during an appearance on The Bulwark Podcast with Tim Miller.

In addition to his warnings, Comey promoted his new thriller, Red Verdict, and announced upcoming live events:
