Fox News host Jesse Watters admitted to making a controversial joke about gun violence to Queen Camilla during her and King Charles III’s official visit to Washington, D.C.

During Wednesday’s episode of The Five, Watters described meeting the royals after their tour of the White House beehive. He noted that King Charles initially had no idea who he was before Watters introduced himself.

Watters recounted the exchange:

“I said, ‘I’m on Fox and I have two shows.’ And he goes, ‘Well, they must really love you here.’ And I said, ‘Yeah.’ So we go down, and there’s the queen. And I said, ‘Well, how was the beehive?’ She goes, ‘It was very good. No one got stung.’ And then I said, ‘Well, you know in Washington, D.C., you know, if the bees don’t get you, the guns will.’”

Watters later tweeted about the incident: “HOLY SMOKES! I ALMOST got THROWN OUT of the Royal State Dinner” along with a video clip. Co-host Dana Perino reacted in shock, asking, “You said that? To the queen?!”

Watters described the aftermath: “And this woman just starts pulling me away from the queen. I don’t know what I was saying. I started mumbling.”

The British royals’ visit to the U.S. included a State Dinner and a speech to Congress, aimed at mending U.S.-U.K. relations amid recent tensions. King Charles also made lighthearted remarks during his address, including a jab at former President Donald Trump’s claims about World War II.

In his speech, King Charles quipped, “Dare I say that, if it wasn’t for us, you’d be speaking French?” referencing Trump’s controversial statement that without U.S. intervention, England would be speaking German.

King Charles also poked fun at Trump’s plans to build a ballroom in the White House’s East Wing, humorously apologizing for Britain’s historical renovations that led to the burning of the White House during the War of 1812.
